Passing of Past Chief

Tuesday, December 1, 2015   John C. "Bud" Holt of Clarks Summit passed away peacefully on Oct. 25 at the VNA Hospice. His wife of 57 years, is the former Dolores E. Shaw-Battersby.

Born on Sept. 23, 1929, in Marlton, N.J., he was the son of the late Lucien and Carolyn King Holt. 

Bud was a proud Army veteran who served during the Korean Conflict as a Staff Sergean. with the Division of the Big Red One. He was an iron worker for 60 years before retiring at age 81, in 2010. Bud retired from Standard Iron Works, and previously worked for Delco Steel and Wilkes-Barre Wire and Iron. Locally, he was proud to have worked on the steel fabrication for the Viewmont Mall and the Steamtown Mall. He served as the Fire Chief with the Bellmawr Park Volunteer Fire Company in Bellmawr park, N.J., from 1958 to 1971. He also served as a Deputy Sheriff in Lackawanna County.

Bud's hobbies included wood crafting, shadow art, intarsia and ceramics. He was a staunch fan of the Philadelphia Flyers, Phillies and Philadelphia Eagles, Nascar, stock car racing and an avid reader of western novels. He greatly enjoyed a lifetime of fishing, especially in Canada.

Bud is survived by his four children, Debra Plantholt and her husband, Bill; John Holt and his wife, Rose; Tammy Van Fleet an her husband, Brian; and Wendy Babushko and her husband, Carl Jr.; seven grandchildren, Jessica Harvey and her husband, Dave; Olivia Plantholt, Andrew Holt, Katie Holt, Sam Babushko and Nick and Nathan Van Fleet; a niece, Karen Tovey; a cousin, Georgeanna Earls; a brother-in-law, Jim and his wife, Tish; many other nieces and nephews

He was also preceded in death by a loving daughter, Kelly Marie Holt, on Feb. 10, 2008; and a brother, Frank Holt.

The family would like to express very special thanks to Dr. Sean McCall, Dr. Chris Peters of NROC, and Dr. Martin Hyzinski, as well as all their compassionate staff.

A funeral service will be held on Friday at 11 a.m. from the Lawrence E. Young Funeral Home, 418 S. State St., Clarks Summit. Interment will follow in Clarks Green Cemetery.

Friends may call on Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

on March 23, 2015, of Bellmawr. Age 85. Beloved husband of the late Mary T. (nee Lipsett). Devoted father of Mary Ann Whitfield (James), Joyce Bush (Michael), Joseph A. (Kathleen), and James T. (the late Kathryn). Loving grandfather Christy, Sharon, Dawn, Lori, Michael, Lauren, Jessica, Joseph, Michelle, Matthew, Megan, Sara, and Erika and great grandfather of Thomas, Keira, Corey, and Vonnegut. Dear brother of Augustus Wadsworth. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. 

Joseph was a volunteer firefighter with Bellmawr Fire Dept. #1 for many years. There will be a viewing from 6 to 8pm Sunday evening and 10 to 11am Monday morning at GARDNER FUNERAL HOME, RUNNEMEDE. Funeral service 11am at the funeral home. Interment Holy Cross Cemetery, Yeadon, PA.

Passing of Life Member

Thursday, February 19, 2015   We regret to announce the passing of Mary Wadsworth, who was a retired life member of the Bellmawr Fire and Rescue #1 ladies auxiliary.

on February 18, 2015, of Bellmawr Age 85. Beloved wife of Joseph A. Wadsworth. Devoted mother of Mary Ann Whitfield (James), Joyce Bush (Michael), Joseph A. (Kathleen), and James T. (the late Cathryn). Loving grandmother of Christy, Sharon, Dawn, Lori, Michael, Lauren, Jessica, Joseph, Michelle, Matthew, Megan, Sara, and Erika as well as 4 great grandchildren. 

Mary was a proud member of the Bellmawr Fire Department #1 Ladies Auxilary. There will be a viewing from 7 to 9pm Monday evening and 8:15 to 9:15am Tuesday morning at Gardner Funeral Home Runnemede. Funeral Mass 10am Tuesday at St. Joachim Parish, Mary, Mother of the Church 20 Braisington, Bellmawr NJ 08031. Interment Holy Cross Cemetery, Yeadon, PA.
